Farmer Construction is excited to announce that our very own Chantal Walter was the 1st place winner in the Provincial Carpentry Apprenticeship Competition that took place on February 24, 2023. This event is organized by Local Carpenters Union 1598 and held at Camosun College Interurban. Chantal will go on to represent BC at the UBC Canadian National Apprenticeship Competition in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, June 8—10, 2023.
We would also like to congratulate Nitasha Wodham of Farmer Construction who came in very close at 4th place. Chantal and Nitasha were 2 out of the first 3 females to enter the competition with Chantal being the first woman to win since the origin of the event in 1963. The concept of the competition is that each trade must complete a written exam and a practical test which included building a small concrete wall, frame a wall section with a window and rafters, stairs, install baseboard and window casing.
We are proud to have such talented carpenters on Team Farmer and we hope this inspires other Women in Construction to showcase their talent in future competitions.
Way to go Chantal and good luck at the Nationals in June!
